Genndy Tartakovsky's new movie Hotel Transylvania won't be out for another week, but in advance screenings to some critics, it's got a Rotten Tomatoes score of 44%. They're attributing it to the movie's pacing, animation and voices (Adam Sandler, Fran Drescher, Kevin Spade, etc.). Still early as only nine critics have reviewed it, but is this a bad sign for the movie?

I've seen the previews and it looks interesting. But why does the humor tend to focus too much on gross stuff like farts and such? I'm seeing that as a trend in some recent animated movies. Even shows like "Sidekick" make it a common gag. Some great animated films in the past never had to rely on embarrassing bodily functions for a laugh.

To paraphrase a line from a radio spot for Netflix, the grossouts and farts is funny "to kids."

Don't bother about reviews or reviewers. A lot of these reviewers are so far up some company or newspaper's rear end that this affects what they say about the film. It's the people, and in this case the kids, that matter.
So 9 people don't like it - tough. I have recently seen Brave and that was panned by some critics over here and I thought it was great. One man's meat is another man's poison, as they say,
I might go and see it myself!
Perhaps The Beatles song 'Nowhere Man' had the best idea. In the film 'Yellow Submarine', he stated that he never read his reviews...
Cheers,

...speaking of this movie, the director is doing an AMA on Reddit right now.

The Rotten Tomatoes score has dropped to 41%. Not a good sign.

I went to the movies yesterday, and both evening showings for Hotel Transylvania were sold out, so that's something at least. (Went to see Dredd incidentally, so I don't have anything to say on the movie)
Even if the movie gets poor reviews I hope it's not a total flop at the box office. At his AMA on Reddit Genndy Tartakovsky basically confirmed that if this movie does well he may have an opportunity to finally do the Samurai Jack movie that is so badly needed. So I'm hoping this movie has a decent opening weekend at least!

Even though the critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes is now at 44% the ratings by audiences is at 80% so I would say this movie has done very well. So much for movie critics. ;D

It's still showing at the local theatre. Bad movies are gone in a couple days.
